Bandits beat Kingfish in OT, 2-1

The Kingfish continue to struggle against Tyrone Garner as the Jackson Bandits
beat the Kingfish 2-1 in overtime. Garner, who shutout the Kingfish in his last
outing, went over 100 minutes before giving up a third period goal to the
Kingfish breaking his shout out streak.
Jackson opened the scoring at the 15:26 mark of the first period as Mike
Vigilante punched a centering pass from Billy Newson behind Jeff Blair to give
the Bandits a 1-0 lead. Brian Forslund also added an assist on the goal.
Baton Rouge was out shot in the first period 16-4, the fewest shots taken by the
Kingfish in a period this season.
Steve Cheredaryk evened the contest at 1-1 just 5:36 into the third period.
Cheredaryk picked up the loose puck along the right circle and took the puck
back to the high slot and fired a shot past Tyrone Garner for the unassisted
power play goal.
Jeff Bes scored the game winner at the 3:34 mark of the overtime session as he
punched a loose puck past Blair. Sean Gilliam and John McNabb added the assist
on the game-winning goal.
The Kingfish fall to 3-9-3 on the season as Jeff Blair made 35 saves in the
losing effort. Baton Rouge continues to improve on the power play as they went
1-3 on the man advantage.
Sunday is ‘Tiger Nite’ at the ‘Fish Tank’ as the Kingfish take on the Pensacola
Ice Pilots at 4:05 p.m. The Kingfish will wear special “Tiger” jerseys that will
be auctioned off following the game.
