The Louisiana Ice Gators needed three third period goals to beat the Baton Rouge
Kingfish, 5-3 at the Cajundome.
Despite giving up an early 1-0 lead, the Kingfish picked up two power play goals
in the opening stanza to take a 2-1 lead to locker room for the first time this
season.
The Louisiana Ice Gators took an early 1-0 lead at the 2:08 mark of the first
period of play as Bobby Brown beat Jeff Blair off a pass from Shawn McNeil and
J.P. Morin.
The Kingfish answered late in first period as Trevor Demmans fired a laser past
rookie netminder Kyle Kettles from the right point at the 16:22 mark of the
opening period. Wes Scanzano and Sean Peach moved the puck well to set up
Demmans on the man advantage.
For the second straight night, the Kingfish picked up two goals in less than a
minute as Clark Jones redirected a Steve Cheredaryk pass into the back of the
net just 26 seconds later. Jesse Ferguson fed Cheredaryk at the point to set up
the play on the man advantage.
The Ice Gators tied the contest late in the second period on the power play as
Kenny Corupe took a pass from Shawn McNeil with just 29 seconds remaining in the
period. Kevin Mitchell also added an assist on the goal.
Louisiana opened the scoring in the third period as Chris Talierco beat Blair to
tie the contest at 2-2 at the 1:13 mark of the period. Daniel Goneau added an
assist on the tally.
The Kingfish answered at the 3:24 mark of the third period as they were
shorthanded. Bryan Richardson beat Kettles on a give and go with Demmans to tie
the contest at 3 goals apiece.
Shawn McNeil picked up the game winner at the 10:37 mark of the third as he
moved in from the point and bear Blair over his shoulder to put the Ice Gators
ahead, 4-3.
Louisiana iced the contest at the 19:20 mark as Bruce Richardson added an
unassisted empty net goal as the Kingfish lifted Blair in favor of an extra
attacker.
The Kingfish take to the ice on Friday when the Mississippi Sea Wolves make
