Kingfish Drown Bandits 7-6

The Baton Rouge Kingfish survived a late third period scare to hold off the
Jackson Bandits 7-6 on opening night.
Baton Rouge rattled off six second period goals to take control of the contest
as first year head coach Cam Brown picked up a win in his first game with the
Kingfish.
Jackson opened the scoring at the 9 minute mark of the first period as Mike
Oliveria beat Paxton Schafer giving the Bandits the 1-0 lead. Doug McIver and
Jeff Bes added the assists.
Under five minutes into the second period, Jackson extended their lead to 3-0 as
John McNabb and Nic Theriault each picked up a goal for the Bandits. Bes and
Sean Gilliam added the assists on McNabb’s power play goal at the 1:14 mark of
the period. Billy Newson picked up the helper on Theriault’s goal at the 2:28
mark of the second period.
Bryan Richardson flipped a puck over an outstretched Adam Hauser to get the
Kingfish on the board on the power play at the 4:11 mark of the second period.
Jason Norrie and Sean Peach added the assist on the goal.
Jackson answered 1:30 later as McNabb added his second of the night with Newson
also adding an assist on the goal.
Baton Rouge was just getting warmed up as the Kingfish rattled off the next six
goals to take a 7-4 lead just under four minutes into the first period.
Wes Scanzano’s rebound shot past Hauser at the 7:56 mark of the second period
cut the lead in half. Clark Jones and Sam Paquet added the assists.
Trevor Demmans cut the lead to one with 8:15 remaining in the second on a blast
from the point on the power play. Sean Peach and Glen Crawford setup Demmans on
the play.
Jason Norrie’s power play tally at the 12:10 mark of the second tied the contest
at 4-4 as Demmans added the assist.
Ryan Trsek’s extra effort power play goal at the 13:48 mark gave the Kingfish
the 5-4 lead as Trevor Wasyluk added the assist.
Glen Crawford extended the lead to 6-4 as he sped past the Jackson defense and
slipped a shorthanded tally past Hauser. Toni Bader and Paxton Schafer picked up
the assists.
Steve Cheredaryk picked up the game winner on the power play at the 4:01 mark of
the third period giving the Kingfish a 7-4 lead.
Jackson cut the lead to one as Mike Oliveria added a tally 13:20 in to the third
with Bes picking up the assist. Marc Trapper’s power play goal just a minute
later was as close as the Bandits would come as Gilliam and Randy Copley added
the assists.
The Kingfish outshot the Bandits 42-28 while going 4-10 on the power play.
Jackson went 2-10 on the man advantage.
Cam Brown looks for his second win behind the bench tomorrow night as the the
Kingfish are back at it in the Fish Tank tomorrow night as they battle the
Mississippi Sea Wolves at 7:05.
