Kingfish power past Everblades, 5-2
Baton Rouge Kingfish Press Release
The Baton Rouge Kingfish used two power play goals off the stick of Dan Sullivan
and 46 saves from Niklas Sundberg to dump the Florida Everblades, 5-2.
Florida looked like they might run away with the contest as Brian Goudie’s slap
shot from the point trickled past Sundberg just 1:56 into the game giving the
Everblades a 1-0 lead. Laurent Meunier added an assist on the goal.
Jerry Gernander tied the game at one before the end of the first period as he
pushed the puck past Randy Petruk at the 8:51 mark of the first. Gernander fired
the puck out of a pile-up in front of the Everblades net. Mike Renzi and Jim
Vickers added the assist on the goals.
Baton Rouge kept things going in the second period as Joe Guenther took Scott
Hewson’s centering pass and buried the puck past Petruk five minutes into the
second period. Dwayne Blais also added an assist on the goal.
A minute and a half later, Alexandre Burrows tipped Brad Fraser’s shot from the
point past Petruk to give the Kingfish a 3-1 lead going to the locker room after
two periods.
Dan Sullivan buried a centering pass from Burrows on the power play to give the
Kingfish a 4-1 lead. Clark Jones also picked up an assist on the goal at the
7:53 mark of the third period.
Florida cut the Kingfish lead back to two goals on the power play. Meunier’s
shot from the left face-off circle had enough steam to get by Sundberg at the
midway mark of the final period. Sundberg got a piece of the shot, but not
enough as it rolled over the line. Jim Verdule and Ryan Murphy added the assists
on the goal.
In what looked like a replay, Sullivan buried his second of the night, again off
a centering pass from Burrows. Jones picked up an assist on the power play goal
at the 13:38 mark of the third period.
Niklas Sundberg made 44 saves in the win for the Kingfish as the net minder
improves to 16-15-1 on the season.
The Kingfish are back in action on Wednesday when the Mississippi Sea Wolves
