Kettles blanks Kingfish, 3-0

Kyle Kettles recorded his second straight shutout in the Centroplex and three
different IceGators chipped in goals as Louisiana knocked off the Kingfish, 3-0.
Shawn McNeil gave the IceGators a 1-0 lead on the power play as he crept along
the goal line and fired a shot that beat Niklas Sundberg to the short side at
the 10:18 mark of the first period. Daniel Goneau and Cal Benazic added the
assists on McNeil’s 29 goal of the season.
The IceGators extended their lead to two goals early in the second period as
Bobby Brown took advantage of a Kingfish defensive miscue and beat Sundberg on a
breakaway. Goneau added his second assist of the night while Rod Sarich also
added an assist on the goal at the 4:43 mark of the period.
A minute and fifty seconds into the third period, Kenny Corupe gave the
IceGators a three-goal lead as he beat Sundberg over the shoulder right under
the crossbar. Shawn Skeihar added an assist on the goal.
Niklas Sundberg recorded 32 saves in the losing effort while the Kingfish went
0-4 on the power play.
The Kingfish are back at it tomorrow when they host the Peoria Rivermen at 7:05

Baton Rouge, LA – Kyle Kettles made 27 saves to post his third shutout, leading
the Louisiana IceGators past the Baton Rouge Kingfish, 3-0, at the Riverside
Centroplex. Shawn McNeil, Bobby Brown and Kenny Corupe all scored for Louisiana,
which has just one regulation loss in its last eight games (5-1-2) and saw its
magic number slide to 14 points.
The IceGators, who snapped a two-game road skid, play at Pensacola on Saturday
at 7:05 p.m., then return home to face the Ice Pilots at 4:05 p.m. Sunday.
Niklas Sundberg recorded 31 saves for the Kingfish, who failed to win for the
ninth time in 10 games (1-8-1).
Louisiana scored once in each period for the victory, while Kettles, who
established a new franchise record with his 12th straight start, kept the
Kingfish off the board. Kettles is tied for the ECHL lead with three shutouts.
McNeil got things started with his 29th of the season, on the power play, at
10:18 of the first period. Daniel Goneau and Semir Ben-Amor each picked up an
assist on the play. Twenty-four of McNeil’s 29 goals have either given the
IceGators the lead or tied the game. Kettles, meanwhile, made nine saves in the
stanza.
Brown scored his 22nd early in the second, at the 4:43 mark, to put Louisiana up
2-0. Goneau and Rod Sarich picked up the assists on the goal, which gave Brown
200 career ECHL points. Kettles stopped nine shots again in the second, as the
IceGators held a two-goal lead heading into the third.
Corupe’s 15th of the season came just 1:50 into the third, on an assist from
Shawn Skiehar, to account for the final margin. Skiehar extended his point
streak to a career-high tying three games with the helper.
Kettles made nine saves in the third to finish the shutout – his second in Baton
Rouge this season.
