BATON ROUGE, Louisiana (Ticker) -- George Awada scored the
tying goal in regulation and the deciding marker in the
shootout to help the New Orleans Brass beat the Baton Rouge
Kingfish, 6-5. Awada assisted on the Shawn Mather goal 1:33
into the second period to give New Orleans the lead 3-2,
tied the game at 5-5 with 6:12 left in the second and tallied
his fourth shootout goal of the season. Matt Demarski
contributed a goal late in the first period and midway
through the second for the Brass, who have now won their last
three games against Baton Rouge. Paxton Shafer, who replaced
Ron Vogel in the net 3:31 into the second period, stopped 18
of 19 shots for the win. Jon Sturgis scored the first goal of
the match 2:25 into the first period and again at the 3:31
mark of the second to give the Kingfish a 4-3 lead. Cam Brown
added a pair of goals and an assist for Baton Rouge, which is
1-3-1 in its last five. Brian Leitza turned aside 45 shots in
the loss.
