KINGFISH DEFENSE SPARKS OFFENSE
The
Kingfish took two of three home games this past week to close out the month of
January with a 5-5-1 record. The defensive corps contributed 60% of the offense
last week. Josh Mizerek led the blueliners with three goals and an assist.
Goaltender Paxton Schafer suffered only his second loss on home ice on Saturday
night. Schafer had not tasted defeat at the Centroplex since opening night on
October 13. The victory versus the New Orleans Brass on Friday night marked the
first time this season the Fish came back from a first period deficit to win
the game (1-8). The Fish (46 pts.) remain in seventh place in the SW Division
two points behind Jackson, Mobile and Arkansas.

First of a weekend double header in the Arkansas Capitol. The Fish have split two games in Little Rock this season, a 3-0 loss in October and a 3-2 victory in December. The RiverBlades have only two wins in their last ten games (2-4-4)

The RiverBlades are led by two twenty goal scorers, Aaron Brand (23) and Mark Cadotte (21). Arkansas centerman Trevor Roenick (44 pts.) was injured on the weekend and will likely miss the rest to the season.

The red hot Brass return for the fourth of five meetings
in Baton Rouge. An 8-1-1 run has New Orleans in second spot in the Southwest
Division. D Josh Mizerek has scored four of his eight goals versus the Brass.

C Mike Rucinski scored his fourth game winner of the season on a power play in the second period. G Paxton Schafer stopped 33 shots. D Josh Mizerek registered a goal and an assist. D Chris Chelios added two assists.
1/26 Kingfish 4 vs. Brass 3 (OT)
Josh Mizerek’s second goal of the game was the winner at
the 2:48 mark of overtime. D Dane Litke scored once and D Jason McKee chipped
in two assists.
1/27 Kingfish 3 vs. Sea Wolves 4
Jason McKee’s first goal with the Kingfish tied the game at three with less than three minutes remaining. Sea Wolves winger John Evangelista broke the deadlock less than a minute later and the goal held up to be the game winner.
